Anand and Doris Saha have been living in Columbus, Ohio for nearly 20 years, but before moving to America they spent much of their lives in Austria. In Austria the pastry chefs perfected their eye for artisanal ingredients and learned how to bake delicacies and treats in the European tradition that’s helped define Vienna as a capital for pastries, coffees and ice creams. The Sahas have been the couple behind the success of Mozart’s Bakery and Piano Cafe for the last 17 years, and they were ready to expand their years of training and experience to several doors down.
When Clintonville staple Denise’s Ice Cream closed in spring of 2011, The Sahas saw a wonderful opportunity to bring the tradition of Austrian ice cafes to the Clintonville neighborhood of Columbus. They traveled through Europe to focus on what made the cafes in Austria, Paris and Italy so great. In July 2011 they opened Vienna Ice Cafe to bring the rich tradition of Austrian Ice Cream Cafes to Columbus, Ohio.
The Sahas wanted to create a family-friendly cafe where friends could relax and enjoy conversation. (As well as a variety of European-inspired ice creams, sorbets and other treats.) They created Vienna Ice Cafe to be a hub for the community much in the tradition of European cafes where great coffee, a relaxing ambience and a never-ending supply of mouthwatering treats can be found. Today customers can also purchase wines paired with ice creams perfectly to bring out the best flavors of both.
Anand and Doris Saha are excited to celebrate being in their first year of business at Vienna Ice Cafe. We invite you to join us as we continue the tradition of Austrian ice cafes and tea houses right here in Columbus.
